Nu Horizons Waste Management
A downloadable game for Windows
Nu Horizons Waste Management is an arcade garbage truck simulation created for Jam Jam.
The game is inspired by the song "Nu Horizons" by The Darkhorse Collective, which was the theme of the game jam.
Playing with the song's oscillating themes of submitting to corporate greed or rebelling against the system, the game allows players to either wrack up money by dutifully collecting trash and depositing it in landfill, or wreak chaos through off road driving and unsanctioned dumping.
The setting is based on the song's fictional corporate town of Nu Horizons, and there are radio stations with music created from mutated embellishments of the song's pastiche collection styles.
Other inspirations for the game come from game Enviro-Bear 2000 with it's low fidelity art and its physics comedy driving, and the scene with the truck transporting toxic waste in Toxic Avenger, a film that also evokes themes of corporate greed at the cost of the environment.
